Amidst the lush valleys of the Aravalli's, which is one of the oldest mountain ranges of the world, lies
the Jaisamand Wildlife sanctuary. The world famous Jaisamand lake constitutes an integral part of the
sanctuary, as is just 10 minutes further along the road. The sanctuary is home to Leopards, Striped Hyaena,
Mongoose, wild Boar, Chinkara deer, Langur monkeys etc.
Our journey takes just about 1½ hours from Udaipur through Kewra reserved forest, passing Daya dam to
Jaisamand Wildlife Sanctuary. Jaisamand Lake is about 15km from our jeep safari entrance gates.
We take the jeep through the thick forests of the sanctuary at an easy pace to allow for sightings.
Visiting Peeladar lake home to many migratory birds where mammals are often seen drinking at the waters
edge.
Arriving at an ancient step well (Jhumar baori) close to an old tiger hunting lodge amidst a grove of
Tamarind trees and wild date palms aligning the wells edge.
We can ascend by jeep to Rakheswar Mahadeo a holy place famous for ancient temple of Lord Shiva.
An enjoyable safari through virgin forest with stops along the way, time for photos and just taking in
this natural forest.
The jeeps can take up to 6 people at a time and are well able to travel through this terrain with trained
drivers who are also knowledgeable about this area. An enjoyable 3 hour journey through unspoilt forest.
